Weakened Friends is an alternative/emo group comprised of three excellent musicians; Sonia Sturino (vocals and guitar), Annie Hoffman (bass) , and Cam Jones (drums). This refreshing, alternative/emo group has released two independent EPs; Gloomy Tunes and Crushed, and have gigged and toured with acts like Silversun Pickups and Beach Slang!
The trio recently released their single, “Hate Mail” featuring a rad cameo from J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. and produced by their own bassist, Annie. From this single and their other works, there's so much to enjoy about Weakened friends. From raw, sincere lyrics to shredding guitar tone and riffs, this upbeat yet occasionally heartbreaking band will get everyone dancing and then feeling real sad, in true emo fashion.
Sonia Sturino feels that being in this band brings everything full circle for her, emotionally and musically. She states:
“A lot of times, you hear expressions like, ‘Find your happy’,” she leaves off. “I think you should find yourself. Our music is about self-awareness and finding that. Sometimes, you’re having a shitty day. It can be hard, and that’s beautiful in its own way. In the North American mentality, if you’re depressed or sad, you have to just get rid of it. This is less about getting rid of that feeling and finding those things causing the feeling and dealing with them. It’s self-awareness, believing in yourself, finding yourself, and defining how you feel. That’s what this band is to me.”
We are so happy to see Weakened Friends on the line up for GreggFest 2018! Send them a like on their Facebook page, listen to their music, and catch them on Friday, May 4th at the Fenton Chester Arena.
